1. Why Not Start Packing?

If you are serious about moving, you will eventually need to begin packing.  While it may seem absurd to start packing months before moving out, this is a great way to de-clutter and organize storage closets, the garage, and your basement. Boxing up items can open up a space and help it appear neater when it’s time to list. Consider it early spring clean-up!

2. Tie Up Loose Ends

While we are still experiencing cooler weather and shorter days, now is the time to finish up any home improvements and minor repairs that haven’t yet been completed.  A home that is well maintained can make the difference between a quick, smooth sale or a lengthy one. If small visible problems are found, the buyer may worry there are larger maintenance issues that have not yet been detected.

3. “Brush” Up on Your Painting Skills

Something as simple as a coat of paint can really make an impact when you are ready to sell.  There is no need to spend thousands of dollars to have the entire home repainted.  Simply focus on the high-traffic areas such as the hallways, kitchen, bathrooms and doors.  Keep the colour scheme simple; neutral earth tones appeal to all buyers.

4. The Great Outdoors

Frigid weather and icy conditions may have left the exterior of your home in disarray. Decomposed foliage from the previous year can appear unsightly and messy to a potential buyer and put an overall damper on a buyer’s vision.  Buyers may see a poorly maintained yard as a sign of an un-kept home, even if this is not the case. A small investment in landscaping can bring a return of four times that.
